We did a deep dive into philosophy today, and I must say, the class was enlightening. I felt like I was teaching a philosophy seminar. Here were the questions that got us started: Are humans, by nature, more likely to be good or evil? Are you more likely to be optimistic about humankind’s potential or more pessimistic? We analyzed these questions from every angle. I was energized by this lively and engaging discussion.

We then finished the article on education.

Final group activity: create your dream high school, imagining you have an unlimited budget. Groups needed to take into account the following component parts of education: classes and curriculum; teacher development and morale; student discipline and motivation; and extracurricular activities. Some groups were very creative in their ideas. Others were rather draconian, like the group that would position a dress-code inspector at the front of the school who would turn students–primarily girls–away from school if they wore inappropriate clothing.
