Monday, April 15 - AM Fluency

Welcome to a new term! At the beginning and end of things, I like to take stock of where things stand, so I began by asking students to do some self-assessment. How is your English doing? Each student shared at least one strength and one weakness? Common strength: listening skills. Common weakness: pronunciation.

We then did introductions, and I laid out the plan for the term: reading articles, alternating serious subjects and lighthearted subjects; listening to songs and analyzing lyrics; and, most importantly, have conversations about every topic under the sun.

The article for today’s class centered on the history of women’s rights in the U.S ., an article from Politico.com. We learned about the Seneca Falls Convention, Margaret Sanger, various pieces of civil-rights legislation, and women leaders.

Tomorrow we will listen to some feminist songs. Then I will give a presentation on women’s rights as well as issues that affect women.
