Boardwork: Find the comma error in each sentence.  (Covered: commas go between date and year, between city and state/country, commas do not separate sentences.  Sentences can be written as a compound sentence using a comma and a conjunction or just by using a semi-colon alone.

2.  Discuss: Show.  Don’t Tell. and Writing is drawing a picture with words.

3.  Discuss: Importance of verbs in a sentence and how using a strong verb can               effectively “show” what you’re trying to write.

4.  Write a paragraph with the topic sentence:  The dog was a terror.  And the following     conclusion:  He scared me to death.    First, pair up and brainstorm items that might be mentioned.  Share paragraphs.

5.  Assign paragraph with the following topic sentence:  _______ is very special to me and   concluding with I will always treasure our relationship.  First, discuss what kind of people are special and make sure that everyone has identified that special person they’re going to write about.  Pairs discuss their person with partner before writing the paragraph as they brainstorm what kinds of things they will put in their paragraph.
