We continued our MLK unit. Students began by discussing, in small groups, causes that they believe in, stand up for, and defend. We then discussed MLK’s work in Montgomery, Alabama, as well as the courageous act of Rosa Parks. Back in small groups, students tried to relate to MLK by discussing ways of confronting hate. We then discussed Project C in Birmingham, Alabama, where King wrote his famous “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” We ended class by reading sections of that letter.
