Wednesday, April 17 - AM Fluency

Today we finished up the unit on gender equality and women’s history. We began with a discussion question: Describe cultural differences between the U.S. and your native country with respect to male/female relations. 

I then concluded my presentation on gender equality. We talked about how advertising campaigns attempt to exploit insecurities that many women experience. We also looked at a number of ads from the 50s and 60s that could be described as nothing short of sexist. Finally, we talked about the connections between Christianity and centuries of a dominant patriarchal culture in the Western world. 

We ended class by working on pronouncing verbs with -ed endings. I distributed a handout on the subject. We will complete the exercises on that worksheet on Monday.
