Last class, many of us remarked that Enya’s song “Caribbean Blue” is beautiful. I admitted to the class that some songs are so beautiful to me that they break my heart. This was the motivation for our opening discussion today: Describe something beautiful you’ve seen. Provide details. Some of us described our children, others mountains and rivers.

We practiced one final time our SLO. We asked for, and gave, advice.

We completed the exercise on p. 78, which covered chapter 3. We then read chapter 4 of our text. Along the way, we enjoyed discussions on a variety of topics, all related to our chapter: feudalism; English/French relations over the centuries; and the Black Death.

Our songs for today’s class were themed ‘Death, Destruction, and Apocalypse,’ a theme connected with the paragraph on the Black Death at the end of chapter four. We only had time to listen to one of the two songs: Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”
