Worksheet - Writing Titles Correctly.  Go over after students have finished.

  1. Return paragraph from last week; discuss use of sequence when writing.

  2. Go over previously worked pages 138-139 in Power Writing 1.  (Selecting topic sentence, selecting topic and main idea.  Counting number of supporting sentences.  Write supporting details underneath topic sentence.

  3. P. 140 - Determining where supporting sentences go - with topic sentence #1 or with topic sentence #2.

  4. P. 141 - Look at the two pictures with the accompanying topic sentence.  Write supporting sentences on the lines below the topic sentence.  

  5. Call on students to come to the board and write a supporting sentence.  Then have a student write a conclusion.  Then - look at word variety.  Did every sentence begin with She?  If so, change the words. 

  6. Read aloud Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.  Point out the fact that the author included a lot of supporting detail.

  7. Write your own paragraph about A Fabulous Day or a Terrible, Horrible Day.  Be mindful of word variety and sequence.
