Wednesday, March 13 - AM Fluency

Today was debate day! I divided the class into four teams of two students each. There were a total of two debates. We followed a traditional debate format: opening statements, summaries, counter arguments, etc. Here were the two topics, with teams arguing either pro or con: 1. Flying is the best superpower. 2. Healthcare should be universal. 

I thought it was a good experience. We laughed, we grew serious, we joked, we got emotional, and I think we all learned something. At the end of class, I overheard a student say, “That was the most civil debate I have ever experienced.”
