Thursday, September 19 - AM Fluency

Opening discussion: Describe a feat of technology or engineering that impresses you. Some responses: nanotechnology; the Hubble telescope; and medical technology. This discussion led to the article we read for today’s class: an article on the science behind the sound barrier. We talked about what exactly causes a sonic boom. We learned about how Chuck Yaeger was the first person to break the sound barrier. We talked about the Concorde. We shared airplane-experience horror stories.

We then listened to the second Pink Floyd song: “Learning to Fly” (which is obviously connected to the theme of today’s class). We analyzed the lyrics and learned some new words.
