Opening discussion: tell us about your weekend!
We then returned to the article on the ten quirkiest cities in the United States. We learned about cities like Portland, Providence, and–the #1 quirkiest city in the US–New Orleans.
Students then practiced taking notes on a lecture. I gave a short lecture entitled, “Five Tips for Traveling.” After my lecture, students compared their notes. Then I guided my students through the lecture to ensure that their notes were accurate.
We concluded class with individual presentations. Students chose two of the cities on the list, two cities that they most wanted to visit based on what they learned from the article. Each student gave a short presentation on their choices, providing four reasons why they chose those two cities.
