We began a new unit today, focusing on American geography. We specifically learned about the city of Portland, Oregon. The opening discussion question got us thinking about cities: Describe one of your favorite cities in the world.

Before reading the article on Portland, we reviewed my handout from last class: pronouncing -ed endings with regular verbs. We completed the practice questions on the handout. We then worked on pronouncing a few problematic words: man, men, woman, women, beach, bitch, left, loved.

We then turned to the article on Portland, focusing on pronunciation, reading comprehension, and vocabulary.
