Syllabus
Course Goal
This course will allow students to learn and apply CEFR A2 level listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and strategies. Students will become competent in grammar and vocabulary appropriate to the CEFR A2 level. Students will move from A2 to B1 level.
Student Learning Outcomes

When listening to a short speech with slow, clear delivery, you will be able to understand the tense of the speech.
When listening to a phone conversation conducted in slow, clear speech, you will be able to pick out key details and specific information including phone numbers, times, dates, days and directions.
When listening to a well-organized paragraph read aloud slowly, you will be able to understand both the main idea and specific supporting details.
When listening to information, you will be able to put it in the correct order.
When listening to an interview, presentation, or lecture on a familiar topic, you will be able to take notes on key information.

When shown a picture or given a prompt, you will be able to select and use an appropriate tense to talk about the image: simple past, simple present, future (going to/will), and/or present continuous.
When shown a picture or given a prompt, you will be able to talk about differences using comparatives and superlatives.
When given a situation or prompt, you will be able to give or ask for advice.
When asked about a familiar topic, you will be able to give your opinion and explain it by giving a reason or example.
You will be able to give a 2 minute planned presentation about an event in the past.

When previewing an A2 non-fiction text with clear markers, you will be able to predict the organizational structure of the text.
When reading an A2 non-fiction text you will be able to identify the topic.
When reading an A2 level narrative text, you will be able to identify the setting, characters and at a very basic level the plot, and the feelings of characters in the text.
When surveying texts, you will be able to distinguish between kinds of literature (ads, news, fiction, etc.).
When given a piece of everyday literature (ads, posters, invitations, notices, and signs) you will be able to find specific information.

When given a picture or a writing prompt, you will be able to write simple sentences using simple present, simple past, future (will/going to), present continuous.
When given a picture or writing prompt, you will be able to write a series of related simple sentences with accurate subjects and verbs.
When given simple sentences, you will be able to replace the nouns with the appropriate personal pronoun or possessive adjective.
When given a short text on a familiar topic, you will be able to embellish simple sentences with adjectives, adverbs and prepositional phrases.
When given a writing prompt on a familiar topic, you will be able to write a brief personal email, instant message, or blog.
Course Objectives
Students will develop their ability to use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms their family and other people, living conditions, educational background and present or most recent job. Students will develop their ability to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. They will be able to engage in very short social exchanges making and responding to invitations, suggestions and apologies. They will learn how to express feelings, using very basic expressions and state what they like and dislike. Students will develop their ability to understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment). They will develop their ability to catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements. Students will learn and apply reading skills and strategies to improve comprehension of high beginner texts about familiar topics. Students will develop their ability to write a simple sentence using simple present tense and to use personal pronouns and possessive adjectives. Students will learn how to write short, simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate needs. They will develop skills to write a very simple personal letter, email, instant message or blog.
