Tonight’s Topic:  News in 2023

In groups, students wrote down three news stories from 2023.  One that affected the group, one that affected the community, and one that affected the world.  These were then shared with the class. Next, the students were asked to reflect on what makes a news story important - the number of people it affects, whether it affects them, etc.

Then the groups were each given a news story from 2023.  After reading their news story, each group presented the who, what, when, where, why of the story to the whole class.  After each presentation, the story was discussed in further detail by the class.  Finally, the stories were ranked on a sliding scale of the most or least number of people affected.
