Reviewed phrases for how to keep a conversation going (open-ended questions) and phrases for how to find a new way of looking at a topic.

Students read the story of a girl who wore a Chinese dress to her prom and how she was accused of cultural appropriation because of it.  They put the article in order and discussed it.  Then they read other examples related to cultural appropriation.  They had to identify/discuss reasons why people may say “yes” or “no” to the situation.  At the end of the class they had to argue in front of the class one side or the other.  Names and sides were picked randomly out of a cup.
