Tuesday, January 16 - PM Advanced/Fluency

We tried a new textbook tonight, Say What you Mean 2:  Strategies to Develop Speaking Fluency.

In partners or small groups, we worked on “Developing Speaking Fluency”, page 30-31.

Groups identified awkward situations when they found it difficult to keep the conversation going.  We discussed using open-ended questions.

Can you give me an example of what you mean?

What do you think should happen instead?

Why do you think that?

What exactly do you mean by that?

Students worked together to plug these questions into a conversation.  Then they practiced the conversation.

Next, we discussed finding a new way of looking at the topic, page 32.  We discussed these phrases.

What would you do if you were in that situation?

Consider it from ____’s point of view.

Let’s look at it another way.

Some people might not agree with that.  They might say _____.

Students worked together to plug these phrases into a conversation.  Then they practiced the conversation.
