Tuesday, September 24 - PM Fluency

This class started as a Fluency/advanced/intermediate class.

SC2

Introduced the focus of the class briefly, mostly for the (for me) new faces: Juan, Will, Maria, Carlos (?): This is a SPEAKING/LISTENING class, ending with a prepared presentation that will be graded according to the SLOs above.

WU: How do YOU solve problems? The students brainstormed in groups of 3-4, while a ‘reporter’ wrote down the ideas. Again, as a group, they decided which two most interesting ideas to share with the class.

Activity 1, p. 158/159 (in the same groups), with short presentations (brainstorm-report-sort-share)

Next, the students (groups) were to collect issues/problems that they would like to know more about.

I shared a few that came to my mind:

  • Burmese Pythons in SFL

  • How to successfully start a business

  • Presidential elections: Outrageous campaign spending

  • Allopathic medicines: How to deal with the scary side effects

  • Electronic devices used as explosives

  • Viruses: How to protect ourselves
